Aligning Layers to Key Objects – SketchApp

Our friends from SketchApp shared on Twitter today a new trick that designers can use for their design projects. The new trick or process makes it easier for designers to align layers to key objects on their design faster or automatically.

Lucien Lee, a member of the Sketch community (we’re lucky to have her) developed an AlignTo plugin that allows us to align layers to a key object. Thanks to her, this will be a huge time saver in the long run.

So how do we use it? See below’s step by step process:

  1. Download the plugin from the Github page or install it by using Sketch Toolbox.
  2. Go to Plugins > AlignTo and select Setting. (Here you can select whether you want to choose a key object manually or plugin selects it automatically by using a top or bottom layer in the selection.)sketchApp-align
  3. Select the layers you’d like to align.
  4. Go to Plugins > AlignTo and select the alignment. (Keyboard shortcuts are easy to remember so if you use this plugin a lot you’ll get the hang of it pretty quickly.)

That’s it! In the image below you can see the final result. Goodluck and Happy Sketching!
